Mumbai Mantra, shall organise an annual Screenwriters lab in India with the world renowned Sundance Institute founded by Robert Redford. The Lab will provide an opportunity for six-to-eight filmmakers from India to develop their works under the guidance of accomplished international scriptwriters in an environment that encourages storytelling at the highest level.


Developed in collaboration with Sundance Institute, this is a non profit endeavour of Mumbai Mantra Media Limited to encourage original storytelling by offering a platform to storytellers to gain from the experience of Sundance Institute and Creative Advisors in international cinema who shall help in honing their scripts further. This fulfills the company’s desire to help Indian storytellers achieve their fullest potential and assist them to develop stories that resonate to a larger audience in India and internationally.




  • Inviting entries for a 5-DAY intensive workshop
  • 6-8 projects shall be selected for the Screenwriters Lab.
  • Scripts could be in any Indian language including English. However, the application for the Lab will only be accepted in English.
  • Eligibility - Indian nationals as well as Indians living overseas, people of Indian origin and mixed parentage working on their first or second feature film project shall be eligible. However they may have worked on documentaries, shorts, advertising films in the past.
  • The Open Submissions to the Mumbai Mantra | Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab are now closed. We would like to thank everyone for an overwhelming response. The selection committee is currently going through the applications. The results will be declared on a rolling basis. All the applicants will be informed about the status of their application by the end of July.
